Venue Energy

Green-energy venues are one of the easiest ways to immediately improve the sustainability performance of our events. 

The National Grid reports that the electricity system has decarbonised by 66% in the last seven years, supporting progress towards their ambition of a carbon-free system by 2025.

Despite this positive step, heating and many of our appliances are still reliant on gas power and, according to the Energy Savings Trust, energy production is expected to increase by 60% by 2030.  

As part of our universal commitment to limit global warming to 1.5‡C by 2030, it’s up to us to ensure that this energy increase is 100% renewable and still reduce our energy usage as much as possible.

We’re on the right track, but now is the time to redouble our efforts in reducing and mitigating the impacts of energy usage at our venues. 

We now have a chance to start our in-person return with sustainability at the forefront of our deliveries.

What we can do...

1. Green energy venues

Does the venue use an energy supplier that generates their own renewable energy such as Ecotricity or Good Energy, or does the venue itself generate its own energy? These are the ones taking sustainable energy to the next level.

Venues that procure sustainable electricity and gas through REGO and RGGO schemes are also playing a pivotal role in transitioning our societies to clean and green.

2. Measuring energy use

Venues that can measure energy use on an event by event basis are best placed to support hirers make the most energy efficient decisions.

With the knowledge about how much energy is being used, effective reduction targets can be set – enabling energy efficient practice and saving money in energy bills!

A win-win.

3. Venues for the future

Venues that have invested in energy efficiency measures in like motion activated lighting and zoned areas for power and HVAC are paving the way for our carbon-free future.

Investment into renewable energy generation to power requirements, exploring opportunities for retro-fitting or improving efficiencies will not only save money in the long term but mean venues can shout about truly energy efficient practices.

BREEAM certifications and LEED certificates demonstrate a commitment to building efficiencies.
